After months of speculation, Television and CBS announced on Wednesday that the upcoming season will be the series' last.

We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show's success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring 'The Big Bang Theory' to an creative close," the statement read, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.

With 279 episodes, it will be the longest-running multi-camera comedy in TV history, TV said in a release.
